The Handcrafted Heifer began in the heart of a woman, born from a simple desire to provide my family and friends with natural, clean skincare. What started as small batches of clean-ingredient bath bombs, followed by goat milk and tallow-based soaps and herbal balms in my own kitchen, quickly resonated with friends and family.
Guided by a love for simple, pure ingredients and our rustic roots, we’ve grown into a small local business that still makes everything by hand. Each product reflects our journey from a personal hobby to a trusted option for sensitive skin
Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Mama Heifer, the maker behind The Handcrafted Heifer. My family and I are ranchers in northeast Montana, originally farmers from northwest Iowa. I’m a mother of three amazing kids and Nana to five beautiful grandkids, patiently waiting for the youngest to have kids of her own.
This whole adventure began when my youngest daughter—23 at the time and just as obsessed with soaking in the tub as I am—asked if we could make bath bombs one day. I didn’t even know what they were, so the research began. After many months of studying, testing recipes, and plenty of trial and error (and money!), we finally created our first bath bombs. They were probably the most expensive bath bombs ever made.
From there, we slowly grew. We have dairy goats, so we soon added goat milk soaps and lotions. After a couple of years—and even more experimenting, mostly failures at first—we expanded into more products, eventually including tallow-based creations since we also raise beef cattle.
I’ve been an organic enthusiast for over 25 years, and clean ingredients in both our products and our food have always been a priority in our home.
